What is a single-user license?

Stata Mp License
  • A single-user license for Stata is an identified-user license. The registered user is the only authorized user of that license.
  • A single-user license allows Stata to be installed in up to three locations (a computer at work, a computer at home, and a laptop) as long as the authorized user is the only one with access to the software.
  • Upgrade discounts are available for perpetual single-user licenses only.
  • All Stata licenses come with access to the PDF documentation.
  • Single-user licenses of Stata/IC, Stata/SE, Stata/MP (2-core), and Stata/MP (4-core) may be either perpetual or annual.
    • Perpetual licenses do not expire and may be upgraded to a new version or flavor.
    • Annual licenses expire one year from the date of purchase. Although annual licenses may be upgraded to a higher flavor, the expiration date remains the same as the original purchase.

What is a network license?

Stata SE and MP are available on the research cluster. You can request a cluster account by going to research.uit.tufts.edu and submitting the application form. Before accessing Stata on the cluster, please contact Tufts Technology Services at 617-627-3376 or it@tufts.edu for an assessment of whether or not your computer’s display meets Stata. You may renew your license as long as you remain faculty or staff at the Amherst campus. Note: Your annual renewal of this site license will provide you with the latest release of Stata at no additional cost. UMass IT also has a limited number or Stata/MP licenses for 2-core, 4-core, and 8-core machines. These licenses are based on concurrent use.

  • An N-user network license is a license that allows a maximum of N concurrent users. It is a perpetual license without an expiration date.
  • A network license is appropriate for use by machines within a single local geographic location or physical site.
  • The minimum size network license that may be purchased is a 2-user license.
  • The size of the license can be increased at any time at a reduced charge. If you currently own a 5-user network license, the price of adding another user would be the price of adding user number 6.
  • All users of a network license have access to the PDF documentation.
  • Upgrade discounts are offered as new releases of Stata become available.

Volume purchase

What is a volume purchase?

  • Volume purchases are just purchases of single-user licenses of Stata placed at the same time in order to take advantage of falling per unit costs.
  • Purchasing N copies of Stata under volume-purchase pricing does not mean that the copies are 'tied' together. For example, you may elect to upgrade only 1 of the N copies and wait to upgrade the other (N - 1) at a later time.
  • Volume pricing decreases the price paid for additional users as N increases when N licenses are purchased together.

Term

What is a term license?

  • Stata's term license is a great way to ensure your department or group has access to the latest version of Stata.
  • A Stata term license is an N concurrent-use network license that must be installed in a single geographic location or physical site. Term licenses expire after one year. If a new release of Stata occurs during this year, the new release is sent to the term license holder at no additional charge.
  • The minimum size term license for Stata/IC and Stata/SE is 15. The minimum size term license for Stata/MP (2-core), Stata/MP (4-core), Stata/MP (6-core), and Stata/MP (8-core) is 10. The minimum size term license for Stata/MP (12-core) and above is 5. Other license sizes are 25, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 400, etc.
  • All Stata term license users have access to the PDF documentation.

Site

  • A site license for Stata provides your entire university with access to the most recent version of Stata.
  • Site licenses are annual licenses that can be customized to include or not include home usage and usage by students.
  • A site license centralizes your Stata purchases into a single annual payment for budgeting purposes.
  • All site license users have access to the PDF documentation.

Student Lab

What is a Student Lab license?

  • A Student Lab license is appropriate for student use in a physical computer lab for classwork or for use by faculty for teaching. It is not appropriate for research, government, or corporate training.
  • The minimum-size Student Lab license is 10. A 10-user Student Lab license is a license for 10 concurrent users. Stata may be installed on a network, or you may install Stata on 10 individual computers within a university lab setting.
  • The Student Lab license is a perpetual license, without an expiration date.
  • All Student Lab users have access to the PDF documentation.
  • Upgrade discounts are offered as new releases of Stata become available.
  • A Prof+ Plan is a great complement to any Student Lab!

What is a Prof+ Plan?

  • Prof+ Plans make it easy and inexpensive for faculty and staff members at degree-granting institutions to acquire Stata 15.
  • Prof+ Plan licenses are single-user licenses with PDF documentation that are available to faculty and staff at universities. Licenses are perpetual or annual. Perpetual licenses do not expire and may be upgraded to a different flavor of Stata at a reduced price. Annual licenses expire one year from the date of purchase. Although they may be upgraded to a higher flavor, the expiration date remains the same as the original purchase.
  • All students have access to student pricing.

Maintenance

License
  • Maintenance allows you pay an annual amount and receive the next release of Stata automatically and without extra charge. Many companies and instutitions prefer a predictable annual cost. Maintenance lets you combine the convenience of paying annually with a perpetual license.
  • When you purchase maintenance for Stata software, you will automatically be sent any major release upgrades which are made available while your maintenance agreement is in effect.
  • Maintenance charges are yearly, and maintenance may be purchased only when you buy a new license or upgrade an existing one.
  • Updates and bug fixes for the purchased release of Stata are automatically included with a perpetual license purchase and do not require the purchase of maintenance.
