Apr 01, 2012 Caio Terra’s Modern Jiu Jitsu: DVD Review April 1, 2012 rynocharger13 Leave a comment Go to comments Caio Terra’s newest DVD produced by Mobile Black Belt created quite a bit of buzz after a trailer and a few short clips were posted online during the weeks leading up to it’s release. Caio Terra is a four-time Rio de Janeiro state champion, a five-time Brazilian National Champion, and sixteen-time World Medalist, the ONLY ten time International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) Black Belt World No-Gi Champion. Additionally, he was the IBJJF Black Belt World Champion (with gi) in 2008 and 2013.
This review is for online training of world champion Caio Terra http://www.caioterra.com
First let me start with the actual content of the website.
The unique thing about the website is lesson plans. Basically lesson plans are group of techniques for a particular scenario. For example in the lesson plan for spider guard pass Caio covers 4 different ways to pass the spider guard.
At the time of writing most of the focus of the website is on guard passing. Various guard passes are covered like spider guard pass, lasso guard pass, deep half guard pass, half guard pass, inverted-upside down guard pass.

The website also has some no Gi content. At the time of writing the content was no gi half guard pass and knee bar from half guard top.
Nothing related to De La Riva is covered so far.
Another unique thing about the website is that all the techniques are unique unlike the Mendes brothers site or Marcelo Garcia site. In their website lot of techniques get repeated but in Caio Terra’s site all the techniques shown are planned and are not repeated again.
I hope in future they cover different guard sweeps and submissions as well. Right now only closed guard and half guard and 50-50 guard are covered. But one also has to realize that the site is just couple of months old and they have over 100 unique techniques.
There is also a section on defending the leg drag pass and submissions from 50-50.

Most of the techniques are shown by Caio Terra but I have seen Samir Chantre appear on one technique.

If you are expecting the sequences shown in his DVD 111 half guard techniques than it will be a bit disappointing because there Caio shows different techniques of out which many are related to each other but no where I have found the precise details of opponent reactions he has shown in his 111 half guard techniques. If you have his modern jiu jitsu techniques dvd than you will see many techniques overlap.
The website is simple and easy to use. There is comments section at the bottom of each video and they reply to the comments also. Most of the filming is done from one camera but it think they should show the details keeping camera close to Caio.
Overall I feel that lots of guard passing details are covered that will keep you busy for few months right now and by the time you drill all those techniques I am hoping they put more guard based techniques also. It’s only been 2 months and they already are offering a lot and the technique content will increase in my opinion.
